点々

てんてん【点々】

1 〔たくさんある点〕 dots; spots.

●点々で絵を描く paint in [with] (tiny) dots; paint in a pointillist style.

●点々の模様がついたシャツ a shirt with a dot pattern.

●点々を番号順に直線でつなぐ connect [join up] the dots with straight lines in the numbered order.

2 〔濁点〕 ＝だくてん.

●かなに点々をつけ忘れる forget to add the two dots [voicing marks] to a kana symbol.

3 〔しずくの落ちるさま〕 in drops; dripping.

●天井から点々と滴る雨漏り rain dripping (into the room) from a leak in the roof

・傷口から点々と血が滴った. Blood was dripping from the wound.

4 〔散らばっているさま〕 here and there; sporadically; scatteringly; intermittently.

●点々としている lie scattered [here and there].

●海上には漁火(_いさりび)が点々と見える. Fishing flares dot the surface of the sea. | The sea is dotted with fishing flares.

・芝生の中に点々とピンクの花が咲いている. Pink flowers are blooming here and there in the grass.

・その日記には涙の跡が点々とついている. The pages of the diary are spotted [blotched] with tears.

・血の跡が点々と草むらの中まで続いていた. Scattered specks of blood led into the grass.
